Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Loses To Rice In Four Games

Ashley Petrinec and Amber Bloom led the team in kills with 14 each. Morgan Johnson added 10 kills. Amanda Blunck led the team with 12 digs and Petrinec added nine digs. For the Owls, Olaya Pazo led the team in kills with a match-high 24, followed by Karyn Morgan with 15, Tessa Kuykendall added 13 and Jessica Holderness chipped in 10 kills. Pazo also led the team in digs with 15 followed by Morgan and Yvette Kirk with 11 each.
Both team battled 7-7 tie before Rice scored seven unanswered points behind the serving of Kirk, taking a 14-7 lead. Rice built an 18-9 lead before Kaitlyn Deutsch served six consecutive points to the Owls' lead three, 18-15. The Owls pushed their lead to five points, 20-15, but the Golden Eagles cut the lead to two, 20-18, before Rachel Lopez served six straight points to build Rice's lead to 27-18. Morgan ended game one with two consecutive aces for the 30-19 win.
Southern Miss jumped out to a 6-2 lead early before both team started trading points. Both teams battled back and forth before Rice knotted the game at 19 points. The Lady Eagles scored five unanswered points for a 24-19 lead. Southern Miss held on for the 30-27 win in game two.
In game three, Southern Miss took a 4-1 lead before Rice fought back with four straight points to take a 5-4 lead. With the game tied at 5-5, Rice used a 15-6 run to build a 20-11 lead. Rice cruised to a 30-16 win.
Game four featured seven ties in the first 14 points scored by both teams. With the scored knotted at 14, Rice outscored Southern Miss, 8-2, taking a 22-16 lead. The Golden Eagles managed to cut the lead to three, 23-20, but Rice recorded seven kills down the stretch to take a 30-24 win in game four and the match.
