Chillin? with George Batiste
How do you feel about the season so far and how you have performed?
?In some situations it?s been rough. We had a lot of stuff going on; a lot of adversity. But at the same time, we?re still not where we need to be?as a team. We strive for excellence, and we?re not there yet. We had a minor setback last week, but we?re real confident in this game coming up. We?ve got our backs to the wall, and we?ve go to get better. No if?s, and?s, or but?s about it. This is conference. We look forward to playing this game on Saturday.?
If I were to get into your car right now and turn on the radio or CD player, what would be playing?
?Some sort or form of Cash Money: Lil Wayne, Souljah Slim, and Juvenile. It?s gotta be Cash Money.?
What is your favorite stadium to play in besides M.M. Roberts?
?Ain?t no place like home. I?ve been to a few places, but there?s no place like home. There?s no place like M.M. Roberts. I will always love to play here more than anywhere else.?
It has been said that you are one of the jokesters on the team. Tell us a joke or a prank that you have done to someone else.
?I don?t tell jokes or do pranks; I?m usually just chillin?.?
You are counted as a leader on the offensive line. How do you plan to be a leader this year?
?By example. You can only talk so much. The best way to lead is by example. Try to be the best and do the best week in and week out, on and off the field.?
What athletes do you admire most?
?Probably ?D? Nix. Derek Nix. Everybody is familiar with his story. He?s still happy about life regardless of some things you can?t change. When he did play, he played hard. He was perfect on and off the field.?
Matthew Chatelain: What a rush!
You are one of the team?s best pass rushers. What is your strategy out on the field as far as rushing goes?
?Just getting off the ball as fast as I can, and playing with speed.?
Joining the team as a walk-on in 2003, how much harder has it been for you to prove yourself?
?At first it was to get an opportunity, but not anymore.?
What USM player do you admire most on the field as well as off the field?
?Probably Kevis Coley.?
Why?
?Because everyday he?s the same?100%.?
Which opponent do you look forward to playing the most?
?Right now, the team we are playing this week because you can?t look past anybody. Every game is pretty big, coming off of a loss especially.?
What is your favorite game day meal?
?Breakfast.?
Do you have any superstitions?
?Yeah, I always get dressed the same way for the game every week.?
What is the difference between the agenda of the last practice before a game and the first practice after a game?
?The practice after the game on Monday is usually pretty short. You?re just introducing your opponent. And the last practice before a game you?re pretty much just going over everything and making everything crisp.?
Quick snaps with Stephen Daigle
Explain to everyone who doesn?t know much about football how important your job as long snapper is.
?I guess it is semi-important. The play doesn?t run without it. If I mess it up, I mess up the whole play?
What is your biggest fear out on the field?
?Probably messing up and snapping it over the guy?s head.?
Which opponent do you look forward to playing the most?
?This week it is
If you weren?t playing football for USM, what would you do with all of your extra time?
?If I wasn?t playing football, I would probably go back and be a frat guy. Party it up all the time, and do all the fun things I hear about college.?
What intramural sports do you play?
?Basketball and softball?ISC 2005.?
What is your favorite part of a game day?
?Playing the game? And hanging out on the sidelines with this guy (Adam Hurst).?
Does the fact that this Saturday is Homecoming make it any different for the team?
?No, we don?t get to participate in any Homecoming festivities. I guess we're supposed to play the easiest team on Homecoming, but it's kind of messed up this year.
