Softball To Continue Fall Schedule In Spring Klein College Classic

Southern Miss will face Texas Tech at 9 a.m., Saturday,
Head Softball Coach Gay McNutt said this weekend will be a good test for the team.
"Any time you face
McNutt said she expects more from the team on offense this weekend.
"We've got to become a more offensive team," McNutt said. "Defensively, we're as solid as anybody. We're going to be strong on the mound. There's no reason we're not a better offensive team."
The team saw its first action last weekend, as Southern Miss hosted its annual fall tournament. The Lady Eagles finished the event with a 2-0-1 record, defeating William Carey 8-0 and
Sophomore Allison Bullard led the team with a .600 batting average over the three game tournament, with three hits, three runs scored, one triple and a RBI. Senior Charity Butler finished with a .556 batting average, leading the team with five hits, five RBI and two doubles, also recording a triple. Freshman Nicole Chisolm had three hits and scored three runs, while sophomore Jennifer Fox added two hits.
On the mound, freshman Lacey Gros pitched a team-high six innings, allowing two hits, while striking out 10. Sophomore Shae Naramore pitched five innings, allowing three hits while striking out five, senior Danielle Wymer pitched four innings, allowing two hits while striking out four and freshman Samantha Davis pitched three innings, allowing four hits while striking out two.
Following the Spring Klein Classic, the Lady Eagles end their fall season and begin conditioning drills in preparation for their season opener. Southern Miss is set to open its season on Feb. 9, against BYU in a tournament in
