Southern Miss Opens Conference USA play on the Road HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team begins Conference USA play on the road, playing at Houston and TCU, also beginning conference play. Southern Miss is coming off a 3-0 loss to Alabama in its first home match. Amy Truong led Southern Miss with 11 kills and seven digs and added 15 assists. VanDuinen continues to lead the team in kills with 103, while Stephens leads the team in blocks with 50. Blunck leads the team in digs with 125. Houston comes in with a 1-11 record, following a 3-1 loss to Texas State. The Cougars have three players with 110 or more kills. Kelly McAnelly leads team with 171 kills followed by Becca Sartori and Kariny Ritter with 117 and 112, respectively. Jaci Ganzales leads the team in digs with 259. This is the 14th meeting between the two teams and Houston leads 12-1. Southern Miss posted its first victory over Houston last season, 3-1, in Hattiesburg. TCU is 9-5 after winning its last two matches. The Horned Frogs will play Tulane before playing Southern Miss, Oct. 2. Four players have over 100 kills, led by Ellen Rehme with 218, Dominika Szabo has 160, Anna Vaughtn has 156. Talaya Whitfield leads the team in digs with 263. This is the sixth meeting between the two teams and Southern Miss leads 3-2. The Lady Eagles won last year's meeting, 3-0, in Hattiesburg. Following the road trip, Southern Miss will step out of conference play to play Alcorn State, Oct. 5, then, resume Conference USA action, Oct. 8 and 9, against Memphis and Saint Louis, respectively.
