Southern Miss Wins Ashbury Suites Classic, Going 2-0

VanDuinen posted consecutive double-doubles

Stephens registered back-to-back double digit kill performances

MOBILE, Ala. ? The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team posted back-to-back wins to claim the Ashbury Suites Classic title Saturday in Mobile, Ala., defeating McNeese State, 3-2 (33-31, 30-28, 15-30, 26-30, 15-12) and South Alabama, 3-1 (30-20, 30-28, 24-30, 30-22), improving to 3-2.

Against McNeese, Jazzmien Stephens and Leslie VanDuinen led the Lady Eagles with 18 and 14 kills, respectively. Amanda Blunck recorded 24 digs followed by Amy Truong with 16 and Kaitlyn Deutsch with 15. Trista Seale led McNeese with 24 kills and Nicole James added 21 kills. Jessica Strama had a match-high 35 digs.

In the South Alabama match, VanDuinen posted 15 kills followed by Stephens with 12 and Nicole Rock added 11 kills. Blunck led the team with 15 digs and VanDuinen had 14. Whitney Sanders and Morgan Flarity led South Alabama with 13 kills each.

Southern Miss returns to action when the Lady Eagles travel New Orleans, La., Sept. 14, for a match with New Orleans before heading to Fort Collins, Colo., for a the Colorado State tournament, Sept. 16-18.
