Football Receives More Preseason Recognition

   HATTIESBURG, Miss.?The preseason awards keep coming for members of the 2004 Southern Miss football team.

   Blue Ribbon, a national football annual, selected Boley to its All-American first team as well as the 2004 Conference USA Defensive Player-Of-The-Year. The publications also predicted the Golden Eagles to finish third in Conference USA in 2004.

   Boley, Eric Scott, John Eubanks and Marvin Young also were selected to the preseason All-Conference USA team.

   Members of the Golden Eagle football team have already received accolades from Athon?s Sports Magazine, Lindy?s, Phil Steele?s, The Sporting News and Street and Smith?s, other preseason football annuals.

   Southern Miss, the defending Conference USA champion, opens its football season on Sept. 11 at Nebraska in a nationally-televised game by ABC at 11 a.m. The following Thursday, Sept. 16, the Golden Eagles will entertain Cal, in a game televised nationally by ESPN at 6:30 p.m.
