Jenkins Selected To Easton 2004 All-America Team
Auriel Jenkins |
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Southern Miss' Auriel Jenkins added to her decorated senior season after being named to one of the three 2004 All-America teams as selected by Easton Sports.
A first, second and third team, as well as an honorable mention team, were selected by the national sports outfit, and the teams included players from the Junior College level on up through NCAA Division I. Jenkins was a member of the organization's All-America Third Team.
This is the second All-America honor for Jenkins this season after she was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America team earlier this month.
Jenkins has enjoyed a tremendous senior season. As the Conference USA Most Valuable Player, she helped lead the Lady Eagles to the 2004 regular season Conference USA championship and a berth in the NCAA Regional Tournament. She led the team in a number of offensive categories including batting average (.373), slugging percentage (.601), on-base percentage (.432), runs scored (41), hits (tied with 57), and total bases (92). Jenkins also was second on the team in RBIs (29) and home runs (9).
Jenkins also was selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-South Region Second Team and was one of four Southern Miss athletes honored as an All American by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
She becomes the just the third Lady Eagle to be named to an All-America team in school history. Former standouts Courtney Blades and Amy Berman were both member of the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams in 1999 and 2000.
