Golden Eagle Tennis Player Receives Sportsmanship Award

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ?  Southern Miss? freshman Juan Garzon was awarded one of  Conference USA men?s tennis sportsmanship award for his play during the 2004 Conference USA Men?s Tennis Championship, announced by the league office today.

Garzon, a native of Bogota, Colombia, played in 22 matches during the spring.  He posted a 5-22 record, playing at No. 2-4 singles.  He teamed with Thomas Funke in doubles and recorded a 5-4 record at No. 2 doubles.

C-USA sponsors a sportsmanship award in all sports.  This award is meant for student-athletes, coaches or teams that perform an individual act of sporting behavior or generally conduct themselves with a high degree of good sportsmanship.  Individuals and teams can be nominated by any staff member of a C-USA institution or by the conference office.
