The team also spent time working on goal line situations, and the special teams.
"We?ve got to continue to learn" Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We?ve put a lot in, and we?ve got some guys who are probably thinking too much. We?ll see where we are after looking at the tape."
Bower said he wasn?t pleased with the scrimmage.
"I thought we were sloppy, and we need to be more physical," Bower said. "Maybe I?ll change my mind when I watch the tape, but I didn?t think we were physical. That (physical play) has been a trademark here for a long time. We?re going to find a way to be physical."
In the scrimmage, quarterback Dustin Almond completed 11-of-20 passes for 263-yards and four touchdowns, three to Marvin Young. Almond threw an 80-yard touchdown to Anthony Perine on the scrimmage?s opening play.

Anthony Harris led all running backs with 14 carries for 40 yards, including two long runs of 13 yards. Larry Thomas finished with 16 carries for 38 yards, including a long run of seven yards.
Defensively, Caleb Hendrix had the scrimmage?s only interception. Michael Boley had four tackles, including three for loss and one sack. Matthew Chatelain had two fumble recoveries, a sack and a tackle for a loss. Darrell Bennett had two tackles, including a pass deflection and a sack.
