Southern Miss Soccer Inks Four During Spring Signing Period HATTIESBURG, Miss. --
The 2004 recruiting class includes Katie Hall (Zionsville HS/Zionsville, Ind.), Megan Kolts (North Gwinnett HS/Suwannee, Ga.), Erin Bunyard (Bob Jones HS/Madison, Ala.) and Jackie Ryan (Brookwood HS/Snellville, Ga.).
The class is fourth for Clark, who will begin his fifth season with the Lady Eagles' program in the fall. The group features players who can help at either midfield and defensive positions, and Clark knows that the class will be a benefit to the Southern Miss program.
"This signing class is very versatile," Clark said. "We are signing kids who can play multiple positions and will help our team. They know how to win, come from elite club teams, and bring a solid pedigree to our program."
Hall helped lead Zionsville to a 10-4-3 record and a final ranking of sixth in the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll last season. Zionsville advanced to the state playoffs, eventually losing in the sectional title game. As a left midfielder, Hall was the team's leading scorer with 14 goals and also was named to the 2003 ICGSA All-State First Team and The Indianapolis Star's North Girls Honorable Mention Soccer Team. As a member of the Indianapolis Dynamo-Katner club team, Hall helped lead the squad to the 2003 state title. She also participated in the Indiana Olympic Development Program and was a member of the state pool.
Kolts helped North Gwinnett to a 14-5-0 record as a junior, while scoring 18 points on five goals and eight assists for Coach Mark Karen. North Gwinnett finished the 2003 season ranked ninth in the state's Class 5A poll. Kolts also played club soccer for Georgia Futbol Club, which is one of the top clubs in the South region.
Bunyard and her Bob Jones High School team finished as the 2003 state Class 6A champion in the state of Alabama with a 20-6-3 record. As a junior for Coach Ken Hudson, she chipped in with one goal and had seven assists, while also earning a spot on the 2003 AHSAA North-South All-Star game as a member of the North team. Her team also received a No. 2 final ranking by the Birmingham News in 2003. Bunyard's club team, the Huntsville Kicks also won the state title. She also played four years for the state ODP team.
As a junior, Ryan helped lead Brookwood High School to a share of the Georgia Class 5A state title after her team tied Parkview, 1-1, in the final match. Brookwood, coached by Anita McLane, finished the season with a 17-4-1 record and was tied for first in the Class 5A poll. Ryan also played for the Tophat Soccer Club in Atlanta, Ga., another top club team in the South region.
