Trevis Coley Named Conference USA Defensive Player Of The Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? Southern Miss redshirt junior defensive back Trevis Coley was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week today.

This marks the first time Coley has received the honor.

Against Cal, Coley registered a career-high 18 tackles, including 14 solos. He also had an interception, pass breakup and tackle for loss against the Golden Bears.

The Palatka, Fla., native finished the regular season as the second leading tackler for Southern Miss, with 97 total tackles (60 solos, 37 assists). He also had one tackle for loss, five pass breakups, a forced fumble and three interceptions, tying for the team lead with John Eubanks.

Coley becomes the fifth Golden Eagle to receive the honor this season, joining Michael Boley, John Eubanks, Luke Johnson and Darren McCaleb as the other Southern Miss recipients.

Southern Miss (6-5) closed out the regular season with a 26-16 defeat to No. 4 California.

The Golden Eagles will participate in a bowl game for the third straight year, and seventh time in the last eight seasons, as they compete in the 2004 Wyndham New Orleans Bowl, facing the University of North Texas (7-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m., at the Louisiana Superdome (69,767). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
