Football Continues Cal Preparations

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? Despite the rain, the Southern Miss football team practiced for two-hours today, in M.M. Roberts Stadium, in preparation for its Saturday game against No. 4 Cal.

Head Football Coach Jeff Bower said the team has started the week on a good note.

?We?ve had two good practices to open the week,? Bower said. ?We?re getting ready to play. I?ve said that they will be the best team to visit M.M. Roberts Stadium, so we need to continue to have a good week of preparation.?

Southern Miss (6-4) hosts Cal, ranked No. 4 in both the AP and ESPN/USATODAY polls, Saturday, Dec. 4, in a 6:30 ESPN nationally televised game. The Bears (9-1) will be the highest ranked team to visit M.M. Roberts Stadium, and the first Pac-10 team to visit Hattiesburg. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-844-TICK or 601-266-5418.

Following the California game, Southern Miss will play in its third-straight bowl game and seventh in the last eight seasons.

This season, the team will compete in the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl and face the University of North Texas (7-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m., at the Louisiana Superdome (69,767). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
