Following his outstanding collegiate career, Bower began his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant to Coach Bobby Collins, and became a full-time member of the coaching staff in 1978. He followed Collins to SMU, and in 1987, became the quarterbacks coach at
Bower is married to the former Debbie Pawlik, and they the parents of 18-year old Stephanie, a first-year student and cheerleader at Southern Miss.
