With Southern Miss? 26-21 victory over UAB today, the Golden Eagles assure themselves of a non-losing season for the 11th consecutive year. The Golden Eagles also become bowl eligible with the win.
With the victory over UAB, Southern Miss now leads the UAB series 5-0.
The victory over UAB snaps a three-game Conference
Southern Miss scored 10 points off two UAB turnovers in today?s game and have now scored 86 points off turnovers this year.
Quarterback Dustin Almond guided Southern Miss to 23 second half points, as he finished the game completing 10-of-14 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Almond has thrown for two touchdowns in four of the team?s games this season.
Southern Miss outscored the Blazers 23-7 in the second half. The 23 points in a half is the second highest total of the season, bettered by the team?s 35 point output in the first half against
Anthony Perine had another career best day, as he finished as the team?s leading receiver, with six catches for 69 yards.
Redshirt freshman Jeremy Young made his first start at quarterback of his career today. Young finished the game completing 4-of-11 passes for 33 yards.
Sophomore fullback Bobby Weakley made his first start of the season at the fullback position today. Weakley had two carries for two yards on the day.
Darren McCaleb connected on a 45-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 24-yarder in the third quarter. McCaleb has now made all 14 field goals he has attempted this year. McCaleb?s 45-yarder in the first quarter was his season-long and the second longest field goal of his career. McCaleb has now made two field goals in four games this season.
Antwon Courington caught five passes for 62 yards in today?s game, and has now caught a pass in 20 straight games. Courington also caught a touchdown in today?s game, a 14-yard reception from Dustin Almond in the third quarter.
Tavarres Williams caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dustin Almond in the third quarter. It was Williams? second touchdown catch of the season and career.
Darrell Bennett recorded an interception in the third quarter, his third of the season. It was Bennett?s third career interception. It was Southern Miss? 13 interception of the season.
Michael Boley led Southern Miss in tackles with eight, including four solos and four assists. Boley also finished with one tackle for loss, two forced fumbles and two sacks. Boley has now recorded at least one tackle for loss in seven of the team?s last nine games.
