Southern Miss Volleyball Team Wraps Up Season at Home

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team closes out the regular seaosn, hosting USF on Nov. 12 and UAB on Nov. 13. This is the first time since joining C-USA that the team failed to qualify for the conference tournament. Seniors Amy Truong and Kate Juedes will be honored in a pre-match ceremony.
Southern Miss is coming off a 3-0 loss at Marquette last Saturday. In that match, Morgan Johnson led Southern Miss with seven kills. Truong added nine digs.
Jazzmien Stephens continues to lead the team with 239 kills and 106 total blocks. Johnson, Truong and Nicile Rock also have recorded 100 or more kills on the season. Blunck leads the team in digs with 338, and Truong also has over 200 digs with 275. Kaitlyn Deutsch leads the team with 24 aces.
USF is 8-16 and 5-6, following a 3-2 win over Memphis. In that match, Kristina Fabris and Flavia Silveira combined for 42 kills. Ashley Reavis recorded 24 digs. Four USF players have 230 or more kills, led by Silveira with 341. Reavis leads the team in digs with 242.
This is the 25th meeting between the two teams, and USF leads the series, 23-1.
UAB is 1-22 and 0-11 in league play, following a 3-1 loss to Saint Louis. In that match, Nicole Bowland led UAB with 18 kills. Isabel Oquendo leads the team with 192 kills, while Brianna Galvin leads the team with 298 digs.
This is the 26th meeting between the two schools, and Southern Miss leads the series 14-11.
Truong closes out her four-year career this weekend. She ranks in the top 10 in assists and digs. She needs only 10 digs to reach 1,000 digs in a career, becoming only the 10th player to do so. Juedes earns her first letter in volleyball, joining an elite group three-sport letterwinners at Southern Miss.
