Hattiesburg, Miss. ? The Southern Miss football team made its first appearance in the Bowl Championship Series Standings since the 2000 season today, earning the No. 23 spot in the rankings.
This marks the first time since Oct. 23, 2000, that Southern Miss (No. 14) has been ranked in the BCS standings.
The first time the Golden Eagles earned a BCS ranking came in the 1999 season, as the team was ranked No. 15 on Nov. 22, 1999. The BCS standings were created at the beginning of the 1998 season.
Southern Miss, ranked No. 21 in both the AP and ESPN/USA TODAY Coaches Poll, hosts Cincinnati in a 2 p.m., contest Saturday at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 601-266-4518 or 1-800-844-TICK.
The Department of Athletics will honor several-time All-Pro (NFL), Collegiate All-American and former Golden Eagle standout punter Ray Guy for his induction in the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame that will take place in December in New York.
