Southern Miss Loses to Southeastern Louisiana in Five

Amanda Blunck led the offensive attack with 17 kills and a team-high 26 digs, while Jazzmien Stephens added 13 kills, Nicole Rock recorded 12 kills and Amy Truong added 10 kills to go along with 52 assists and 14 digs. Truong recorded her fourth triple-double of the season. Cassie Conley recorded a career-high 21 digs.
Jennifer Jones led Southeastern with 17 kills, Ashley Rougeou had 14 kills and Keri Hamblin added 12 kills. Brittany Gaydos recorded a match-high 32 digs.
?We started out strong tonight, but we just couldn?t finish,? Head Coach Ricci Luyties said. ?We had several chances to win this match, but we had some mental breakdowns and communications problems we just couldn?t overcome.?
Southern Miss registered 14 more kills than Southeastern and out hit the Lady Lions, .152 to .148. The Lady Eagles tallied 99 digs.
Southeastern jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one, but Southern Miss outscored the Lions 12-5 to take a 12-11 lead. Southern Miss broke a 19-19 tie on a kill by Kaitlyn Deutsch and then Deutsch then served nine consecutive points for a 29-20 lead. Rock ended the game with a kill for a 30-20 win.
Both teams played evenly through the first 14 points. The Lions held a slight edge, 14-13, before taking a 23-16 lead following a 10-3 run. Southern Miss answered with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 23-23. Southern Miss held on for a 30-27 win.
After the intermission, Southern Miss came out strong, but Southeastern put together a 17-9 run, taking the lead for good on their way to a 30-23 win.
Both teams battled throughout game four. At one point, the Lions led 15-10, but the Lady Eagles put together a 13-8 run to tie the game at 23-23. Southern Miss had two attack errors to end the game, giving Southeastern a 31-29 victory.
Southern Miss led 2-1 before Southeastern ran off four straight points, taking a 5-2 led and never looked back. Southern Miss was able to tie the game at 8-8, but the Lions recorded two straight kills and a service ace for an 11-8 lead. SLU ended the game and match on a Jennifer Jones kill.
