Southern Miss Visits Charlotte and East Carolina in Weekend Series HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Conference USA matches against Charlotte and East Carolina. Southern Miss is coming off a 3-0 loss to in-state rival Mississippi State. In that match, Jazzmien Stephens and Morgan Johnson led the Lady Eagle offensive attack with eight kills each. Amanda Blunck posted a team-high 16 digs, and Kate Juedes added 13 digs. Amy Truong had a string of playing in 87 consecutive matches broken when she missed the MSU match. The Lady Eagles have four players with 100 kills or more, led by Stephens with 173. Johnson has 127, Truong with 106 and Leslie VanDuinen has 103. Blunck continues to lead the team in digs with 235, followed by Truong with 203. Charlotte is 16-8 and 2-4 in league, following a 3-1 win over Radford. Abbey Szlanfucht led the 49ers with 16 kills, Jessica Oldenburg and Alma Arroyo added 13 and 11 kills, respectively. The 49ers have five players with 100 kills or more. Szlanfucht leads the team with 336 kills, while Lisa Newell has 282 kills and Oldenburg has 231. Holly Kreyling leads the team in digs with 302, and Molly McDonald has 1,047 assists. This is the 16th meeting between the two, and Southern Miss leads 8-7. East Carolina is 8-13 and 2-4 in the league before its match with Tulane (10/22). Erica Wilson leads a group of six players with 100 or more kills with 222. Johanna Bertini leads the team with 304 digs, and Heidi Krug has 888 assists. Southern Miss and ECU has played only three times and Southern Miss leads 3-0. Following the Charlotte-East Carolina swing, Southern Miss returns to play its final non-conference home match against Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 26, before hosting Cincinnati (10/29) and Louisville (10/30) in C-USA play.
