Mississippi State Sweeps Southern Miss, 3-0, in Volleyball

Southern Miss dropped its second-straight match, losing to instate-rival
Jazzmien Stephens and Morgan Johnson led the Lady Eagle offensive attack with eight kills each. Amanda Blunck posted a team-high 16 digs and Kate Juedes added 13 digs.
Rachel Cooper led the Bulldogs with a match-high 15 kills on an error-free hitting night, finishing with a .536 attack percentage. State?s Jami Hester finished with 11 kills and four blocks. Megan Lukasek paced MSU on defense with 16 digs and Andrea Mead added 14 digs.
Both teams got off to a slow start, the nine-kill, error-free performance by Cooper helped the Bulldogs take game one, 30-24. With the score knotted at 15-all, State ran off seven-straight points. Southern Miss led only briefly in game two before State take control of the game with a 5-0 scoring run for a 30-25 win. Kelly Willinger sparked the Bulldogs with seven kills in the match-clinching third game as State pulled away from an 8-8 contest with a 7-2 run.
