Southern Miss Hosts In-state Rival Mississippi State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team steps out of Conference USA play, hosting in-state rival Mississippi State on Tuesday, Oct. 19, in a 7 p.m. match.
Southern Miss is coming off a 3-0 loss at Tulane. In that match, Leslie Robertson led the Lady Eagles with eight kills, while Amy Truong and Nicole Rock were next with four each. Libero Amanda Blunck paced Southern Miss with 15 digs, and Truong and Kaitlyn Deutsch were close behind with seven apiece.
The Lady Eagles have four players with 100 kills or more, led by Jazzmien Stephens with 165. Johnson has 119, Leslie VanDuinen has 103 and Truong with 106. Blunck continues to lead the team in digs with 219, with Truong close behind with 203.
Mississippi State comes in with an 11-10 record, following a 3-1 win over Troy University. Megan Lukasek led the Bulldogs with 10 kills and Julie Hamilton added 10.
The Bulldogs have four players with 100 kills or more. Rachel Cooper leads the team with 291 kills, while Orsolya Kriegel has 188 kills, Jamie Joyner has 115 and Erin Seago had 104. Lukasek leads the team in digs with 239, and Andrea Mead has 756 assists.
This is the longest-running series for the Lady Eagles. This is the 49th meeting between the two teams, and MSU leads the series, 38-10. Last season, Southern Miss defeated MSU in the Mississippi State tournament.
Following the MSU match, Southern Miss hits the road for a weekend series at Charlotte (Oct. 22) and East Carolina (Oct. 23).
