Southern Miss Travels to Tulane
Lady Eagles prepare for C-USA action |
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team returns to Conference USA play, traveling to Tulane for a 7 p.m., match on Oct. 16. The match will be televised locally on Cox Cable 10 in the New Orleans area.
Southern Miss is coming off a 3-2 win over South Alabama. In that match, Southern Miss had three players record 10 kills each, Kaitlyn Deutsch, Morgan Johnson and Nicole Rock. Amy Truong posted a season-high 24 digs, just missing a triple-double with nine kills. Amanda Blunck tallied 15 digs.
The Lady Eagles have four players with 100 kills or more, led by Jazzmien Stephens with 161. Johnson has 116, Leslie VanDuinen has 103 and Truong with 101. Blunck continues to lead the team in digs with 204, with Truong close behind with 196.
Tulane comes in with a 9-4 record, following a 3-0 win over Southern University. Anastasia Kenon led the Green Wave with 10 kills.
The Green Wave has three plaeyrs with 125 kills or more. Deva Fowler leads the team with 182 kills and 73 total blocks. Sarah Weiland has 144 kills, and Lindsey Norman has 129. Kelli Dickson leads the team in digs with 209, and Katie Case has 544 assists.
This is one of the longer-running series for the Lady Eagles. This is the 47th meeting between the two teams, and Tulane leads the series, 40-6. Last season, the teams split matches.
Following the Tulane match, Southern Miss returns home to host Mississippi State in non-conference action, Oct. 19. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
