Softball To Compete In Spring Klein College Classic
The Lady Eagles are playing in Spring Klein, Texas this weekend, junior third baseman Ashley Brenan's hometown. |
The Lady Eagles will play three games on Saturday, followed by two more on Sunday. All games will be played at the Collins Park Complex. Admission to the tournament is $6.
Southern Miss is currently 1-2 in fall play, defeating William Carey 20-0, before falling in a doubleheader to
Head Softball Coach Gay McNutt said the tournament will be a good challenge for the Lady Eagles.
?We?re going to be up against some tough competition all weekend,? McNutt said. ?I?d like to see our team come together and play the way they?re capable of playing.?
McNutt said she?s looking for better performances on the mound and at the plate.
?Our pitchers need to have a better performance in this tournament,? McNutt said. ?They will need to work hard this weekend. I?m looking for our number one pitcher and that?s what we need to find out this weekend.
?We?ve got to do a better job offensively,? McNutt said. ?We didn?t adjust pitcher to pitcher Wednesday night. There were a lot of things that we need to do better this weekend. We?re looking to find the Southern Miss team that we want everyone to see in the spring.?
Junior Jessica Huerta leads the team with a .667 batting average, five runs scored, nine total bases, and six hits. Sophomore Melissa Prouty is second with a .660 average, while freshman Jessica Myers and junior Ashley Davis are hitting .571 and .375 thus far in fall action.
