The Cougars defeated Southern Miss in four games, 3-1 (26-30, 30-25, 30-21, 30-27), behind the outstanding offensive performance of sophomore Kelly McAnelly, who recorded a match-high 33 kills. With the loss, the Lady Eagles dropped to 3-8 and 0-1 in league play, while
Amy Truong led the Lady Eagles with a triple-double, 15 kills, 29 assists and 18 digs. Morgan Johnson registered 14 kills and Jazzmien Stephens added 12 kills. Amanda Blunck recorded 17 digs. Stephens and Johnson each had eight blocks.
Southern Miss won the first game, 30-25, but Houston bounced back to win the next two games, before taking game four with a 4-0 run to close out the game four, 30-27. The Cougars finished the match with a .259 attack percentage, while Southern Miss hit .176. The Lady Eagles had a total of 14 team blocks.
