HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team takes to the road again as it competes in the second tournament of the season -- this time at the Mississippi State Invitational in Starkville, Miss.
Southern Miss (4-1) has three matches on the slate for the weekend, taking on Austin Peay at 4 p.m., Friday, and then battling UT-Martin and Mississippi State, at 12:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
The Lady Eagles, under the direction of third-year Head Coach Santiago Restrepo, are coming off a successful first week of play, one that included a win over New Orleans on Wednesday and a second place finish in the opening tournament of the season at Texas A&M-CC.
In the opening tournament, Southern Miss defeated North Carolina A&T, Sam Houston State and host Texas A&M-CC -- all of which were shutouts. The team's only loss came to first-place finisher Texas Tech.
Senior Bridget Files and Nicki Tribble pace the Lady Eagles this season, leading with 77 and 71.5 points respectively. Following the duo, senior Andrea Bush has 50 overall points. Junior setter Amy Troung has a team-high 185 assists. Tribble and Files also lead with 67 and 60 kills, respectively.
Austin Peay is coming off a win in its home opener against Belmont on Tuesday. The Lady Govs topped the visitors 3-1, improving to 2-2 overall on the season. Sarah Schramka leads Austin Peay with 73 points on the year, while Amy Walk follows with 53 points.
