Lady Eagle Volleyball Hosts UNO in Home Opener
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After finishing with a 3-1 record in the first tournament of the season, the Southern Miss women's volleyball team opens its home portion of the schedule against New Orleans, Wednesday, at USM's Payne Center.
The match is set for 7 p.m., and is the first of 14 home dates for the 2003 season.
The Lady Eagles, under the direction of third-year Head Coach Santiago Restrepo, are coming off an impressive performance in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational last weekend.
In the event, Southern Miss defeated North Carolina A&T, Sam Houston State and host Texas A&M-CC -- all of which were shutouts. The team's only loss came to first-place finisher Texas Tech.
Seniors Bridget Files and Nicki Tribble pace the Lady Eagles this season, leading with 61.5 and 59 points respectively. Following the duo, senior Andrea Bush has 42 overall points. Junior setter Amy Troung has a team-high 149 assists. Tribble and Files also lead with 55 and 47 kills, respectively.
UNO (1-2) is led by Jennifer Cruz and Anais Urdaz, who have 38 and 31 kills, respectively.
Following tonight's match, the Lady Eagles take to the road again as they compete in the Mississippi State Tournament, Friday and Saturday. Southern Miss takes on Austin Peay, at 4 p.m., Friday, before battling UT-Martin and Mississippi State on Saturday.
