Southern Miss Volleyball Splits Matches
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team split a pair of matches, Saturday, against visiting Alcorn State and Tulane in the Southern Miss Tri-Match at the USM Payne Center.
The Lady Eagles (15-3) won their opening contest against the Lady Braves, 3-0, and later fell to the Green Wave in four games, 3-1.
Southern Miss cruised in the opening match (30-9, 30-23, 30-26). In the contest, Nicki Tribble led all players with 16 points, including a tie for the team-high with 12 kills. Andrea Bush followed with 14 points and matched Tribble's kill total of 12.
Bridget Files added 12 points in the match, and Amy Truong finished with 36 set assists. Leslie Robertson led all players with five service aces, and Tribble added four.
For Alcorn (2-14), Rosin Fadeyi had eight kills and nine total points.
The match against Tulane lasted nearly two hours with the visiting Green Wave dropping the first game 31-29, and then taking the next three games, 30-21, 32-30, 30-24. While both teams are members of Conference USA, the game did not count towards conference standings.
Bush led all players with 24 kills in the loss, and also had a team-high 24.5 points for Southern Miss. Tribble added 20.5 points and 16 kills, while Files had 12 kills and 20 points. Truong added 59 assists. Tribble also had four aces.
Deva Fowler had 16 kills and 20.5 points to pace Tulane, while Anastasia Kenon added 15.5 points and 15 kills. Kelli Dickson and Katie Case picked up 28 and 26 assists, respectively.
In the second match of the day, Tulane defeated Alcorn State (30-19, 30-16, 30-28).
Southern Miss returns to action this weekend, hosting C-USA opponents Houston and TCU on Friday and Saturday.
