Golden Eagles Wrap Up UAB Preparation
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team wrapped up a short week of practice Tuesday in preparation for Thursday's Conference USA opener against UAB.
The Golden Eagles (0-1) take on the Blazers (1-0) in a nationally-televised contest at 6 p.m., Thursday, at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala.
After traveling to play California last week, Southern Miss had just three days of practice heading into this week's game. But Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower has been pleased with the work over those three days and feels his team is ready.
"It was a good week of practice," Bower said. "Today's practice was a lot better than last Thursday's (final practice before the Cal game). We had better concentration, and I thought we were locked in a lot better."
Bower said that the team is healthy, but redshirt-senior linebacker Terrell Paul (MCL sprain) will not play in the game.
The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. It also will be broadcast on the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network, with John Cox handling the play-by-play, Vic Purvis with analysis and Lance Pittman on the sideline. Broadcast for the game begins 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
