Southern Miss Volleyball Hosts Forrest General Classic
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After playing in three road tournaments this season, the Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team gets the chance to host one for a change.
The Lady Eagles host the Forrest General SportsCare Volleyball Classic this weekend, at the USM Payne Center. Other teams participating in the event include Arkansas-Little Rock, Jackson State and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Southern Miss, under the direction of third-year Head Coach Santiago Restrepo, enters the tournament off to its best start in school history, with a 10-2 overall record. The Lady Eagles blanked Ole Miss, 3-0, on Tuesday and finished with a 2-1 mark in the Air Force Tournament over the weekend.
Seniors Bridget Files and Nicki Tribble have combined to provide much of the Southern Miss offense this season. Files leads the team with 195 points, while Tribble follows with just 194 points. Tribble leads the team with 167 kills, while Files is tops in overall blocks with 42. Senior Andrea Bush follows both players with 140.5 total points this season.
Arkansas-Little Rock enters the tournament with a 7-3 overall record, including wins in the last four matches. Ivana Vracar leads the team with 220 kills, while Larisa Durmisevic follows with 170 kills.
Louisiana-Lafayette stands at 3-7 on the season, winning just one of their last eight matches. The team went 2-1 over the weekend in the Memphis Invitational. Lesley Tough leads the team with 118 kills.
Jackson State (7-6) rides a five-match win streak to Hattiesburg. Verita White and Cara Jones lead the Lady Tigers with 122 and 108 kills, respectively.
