Lady Eagles To Host In-State Foe Ole Miss
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After playing all but one of the first 11 matches on the road, the Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team is deserving of a home stretch.
That stretch begins Tuesday as Southern Miss hosts intrastate rival Ole Miss at the USM Payne Center at 7 p.m. The match is the first of four-straight home contests for the Lady Eagles, who host the Forrest General SportsCare Volleyball Classic this weekend.
Under the direction of Santiago Restrepo, Southern Miss (9-2) enters the match after finishing second in the Air Force Invitational Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Lady Eagles won their first two matches before falling to the host Falcons in the final match. Southern Miss had won a record eight-straight matches before the loss.
The senior trio of Bridget Files, Nicki Tribble and Andrea Bush continue to lead the Southern Miss offense. Files leads all players with 181.5 points and 117 digs on the season and is second on the team in kills with 139. Tribble has a team-high 151 kills on the year and has 98 digs. Bush follows with 114 kills and 95 digs. Junior setter Amy Truong, who along with Bush was named to the Air Force Tournament's All-Tournament team, has 411 assists this season and leads the team with 16 service aces.
Ole Miss (1-9) has struggled this season after starting with an 0-7 record. The Lady Rebels picked up their first win of the year against Alcorn State on Friday. Rachel Refenes has a team-high 126.5 points this season and is second with 93 kills. Elena Garcia has 103 kills and 121.5 points.
