Lady Eagles Fall in Air Force Championship
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Southern Miss was denied its second-straight tournament championship as it fell to host Air Force, 3-1, in the championship match of the Air Force Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles, who had previously won eight matches in a row, could not keep the streak going and fell to 9-2 overall on the season. The Falcons improved to 8-2 overall with the win.
The match was a hard-fought one as all but one game was determined by three points or less. Air Force won the games, 30-27, 30-23, 30-32, 34-32.
Bridget Files led Southern Miss with 28 points overall, including 23 kills and 15 digs. Nicki Tribble and Andrea Bush both had 13 kills in the match, finishing with 15.5 and 15 points, respectively.
For Air Force, Delavane Diaz had a match-high 43 points and 41 kills.
Bush and junior setter Amy Truong both earned all-tournament honors for the Lady Eagles.
Southern Miss returns to action Tuesday, when it hosts Ole Miss at 7 p.m., at the USM Payne Center.
