Southern Miss Sweeps Sam Houston State in Three Games
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas ? Southern Miss won its second match, defeating Sam Houston State in three games, 30-26, 30-27, 30-21.
Nicki Tribble led the Eagles with a match-high 19 kills and Bridget Files added 14 kills and 11 digs. They combined for 38.5 of the 66 points. Andrea Bush had 15 digs and eight kills for nine points. Carrie Sartain and Alisha Fowler had 10 kills, each.
"Our passing was good this morning, which led to good setting and us being able to run our offense effectively," Head Coach Santiago Restrepo said. "I was pleased with the play. Our defense played well, also."
Southern Miss took game one, after trailing 6-1 early. The Eagles took the lead for good at 18-17, following a Jazzmien Stephens kill. The Eagles won 30-26.
Both teams traded points through out the match. Southern Miss finally took the lead for good at 25-24, following a Amy Truong kill. The Eagles finished the match with a 5-3 run and winning 30-27.
In game three, the Lady Eagles used a strong attack game and hit .316 for a 30-21 win. Southern Miss concludes it play in the tournament at 2 p.m. with a match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
