Nix Shows Continued Improvement
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Derrick Nix, who underwent kidney transplant surgery Friday, has been resting comfortably today in the hospital care unit of the UAB Medical Center. According to Nix's older brother Tyrone, Derrick moved around more today, but still is not allowed to eat anything yet.
The hospital staff gave him dairy products to help his digestive functions progress to the point where he can start eating normally. The oldest Nix brother, Marcus, who made the kidney donation, should be released on Monday.
Derrick Nix will be under direct doctor's care, requiring an extended stay in the hospital, allowing the medical staff to monitor his kidney functions until he is released. If he continues to improve, he should be moved to an on-site hospital apartment at the end of the upcoming week for the remainder of his stay.
