Golden Eagle Trackster Advances to National Finals

HATTIESBSURG, Miss. -- The University of Southern Mississippi's track and field standout, Cedric Norman, finished tied for first after the qualifying round at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Norman, a Tuscaloosa, Ala., native was one of nine athletes to jump 7?1 3/4? and advance to the finals on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., central time (4:30 p.m., pacific). This is Norman?s first trip to the championships. Heading into the NCAA Championships, Norman owned the second-best jump at 7'5 1/4", the height he recorded at the Conference USA Outdoor Championship in Charlotte, N.C., May 17. He has finished first in each of the nine meets he has competed in this spring.
