No. 4 Louisville Defeats No. 5 Southern Miss, 8-1
HOUSTON, Texas - No. 4 Louisville defeated fifth-seeded Southern Miss, 8-1, in the first game of the Conference USA Softball Tournament, today, at the Cougar Softball Stadium. Sophomore Sara Bausher notched her first career grand slam to clinch the victory for the Cardinals. Louisville improves to 22-24 on the season and will now face No. 1 DePaul, currently ranked fourth in the nation, in the second on Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Cardinals got on the board first in the second inning when Bausher scored on a fielder's choice by Lacy Wood. Nicole Sparks singled to right field and plated Lisa Estes, giving Louisville a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bausher highlighted the six-run frame by posting her first career grand slam. It was the first-ever grand slam home run in C-USA Tournament history.
In the pitching circle, Louisville's Krystle Herold picked up her sixth win, striking out five and giving up only one earned run in seven innings pitched.
Jessica Holaway recorded the loss, falling to 14-15 on the year. The junior surrendered 10 hits, eight runs, three walks and struck out two.
Southern Miss falls to the loser's bracket where it will face the loser of the South Florida/Houston game on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
