One Workout Left Before Spring Game
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Following a solid workout today, concluded with a spirited scrimmage, the Southern Miss football Eagles now have only one workout remaining prior to Saturday's Black & Gold spring game.
The Golden Eagles will work Thursday and then end the spring with the annual spring football game, Saturday, at 1 p.m. The game will highlight a full weekend of activities that also will include a three-game weekend baseball series against Charlotte, a three-game softball series, also against Charlotte, and the annual M-Club Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony Friday night at the Lake Terrace Convention Center, in Hattiesburg.
The weather also was somewhat unusual, as Southern Miss worked Wednesday in cold weather, after putting in several hot-weather practices only last week. "The chill factor had to be in the upper 30's by the time we finished today," said Head Coach Jeff Bower. "I'm not sure any of us were dressed for that kind of weather."
But Bower also said the effort was a solid one. "I thought we got better on offense today," he said. "We're still making a lot of minor mistakes, but we made a lot more plays today, ran the ball better than we have at any time this spring, had more big plays and scored more points than we have in recent workouts.
"We've made some progress on the offensive side, so it was good to see that."
