Auriel Jenkins led the Lady Eagles (22-26) with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, two runs and three RBIs. Tammy Edwards blasted a home run and a triple, finishing the game hitting 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Southern Miss recorded nine hits in the contest with seven Lady Eagles collecting swats.
Jessica Holaway (11-14) produced her sixth shutout of the season and her second against the Lions (14-29). The junior surrendered three hits and one walk while fanning six.
In the bottom of the fifth, Southern Miss collected four runs on three hits and one error. Pinch-hitter Ashley Davis led off and reached on a fielding error by shortstop Raeni Landry. Edwards followed and scored Davis on the senior's third triple of the season.
A fielder's choice allowed Sarah Boyd on the bags when the Lions' infield failed to get Edwards out, as she dove back to third base. Jenkins singled and scored pinch runner Kim Bishop, and Boyd went to third on the play. Ashley Brenan's grounder allowed Boyd to come home, as the junior dove under the tag at the plate, and Laura Smith ended the game with a single to right centerfield, plating Jenkins for the 8-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles scored a run each in the third and fourth innings. Edwards added her solo bomb, her second home run of the season, in the third, and Jenkins scored on Jessica Huerta's infield single in the fourth.
Jenkins started the scoring in the bottom of the first, with a bases-loaded double to straight centerfield that scored Amanda Brown and Charity Butler. Seven Lady Eagles crossed the plate in the contest.
Kelli Gautreau was 1-for-1 at the plate, leading the Lions, and Kristen Rogillio finished hitting 1-for-2. Emily Stelly (8-17) received the loss, recording six hits, four runs and one strikeout in the decision.
