Saint Louis Defeats Lady Eagles, Takes Series
ST. LOUIS, Mo. ? The Southern Miss softball team gave up only one run today, but it was the only run of the game, as Saint Louis picked up another conference win, defeating the Lady Eagles, 1-0.
The Billiken?s Adrienne May crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning for the only score of the contest. May reached first on a throwing error by Ashley Brenen and advanced to second on the error. She made it to third on Kerri Higgins? ground out and plated on Danielle Wymer?s wild pitch, giving Saint Louis (16-13, 9-11 in C-USA) the victory.
Nicole Bohnenstiehl (13-8) picked up her second shutout win of the three-game series against Southern Miss (21-26, 7-11). She surrendered one hit, in the top of the first, and sat down the Lady Eagles in order for the remainder of the game. She also collected six strikeouts.
Wymer (5-9) gave up only one hit and no earned runs, while picking up the loss. She recorded one walk and two strikeouts. Her only hit was surrendered in the bottom of the sixth. Tammy Edwards batted 1-for-3 to lead the Lady Eagles in hitting.
Southern Miss will be completing its home schedule next week. The Lady Eagles host Southeastern Louisiana in a single game on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. The final home conference series will be next weekend, April 26-27, with three games against East Carolina.
