LSU Defeats Lady Eagles, 14-0
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? No. 11 LSU produced 15 hits and limited the Southern Miss softball team to only one hit, as the Tigers shut out the Lady Eagles, 14-0 in six innings. Camille Harris batted a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, a home run and six RBIs for LSU.
The Tigers (35-11) scored seven runs in the top of the sixth, pushing them well over the eight-run differential needed to conclude the game prior to seven innings. Both Christy Connor and Julie Wiese doubled in the frame, and Harris collected two hits in the sixth, leading off with a single up the middle and then knocked another single through the left side of the infield for two RBIs.
The third inning featured LSU scoring four runs, as Alicia Owen doubled to center field for two RBIs. She ended the game batting 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Harris started the scoring for the Tigers in the second. On a 2-2 pitch, she blasted her fourth home run of the season for three RBIs.
LSU pitcher Kristen Schmidt went the distance, giving up one hit and one walk, while striking out nine for the shutout. She improves to 21-9 on the year.
Tammy Edwards went 1-for-2 for the Lady Eagles (20-24). Jessica Holaway falls to 10-13, after pitching 2.2 innings with seven hits, four earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts.
Southern Miss takes to the road for a three-game series this weekend at Saint Louis. The Lady Eagles will face the Billikens in a doubleheader on Friday, April 18, at 1 p.m., and in a single game on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. None of the weekend?s games will have Live Stats on SouthernMiss.com.
