Golden Eagles Done In Hattiesburg, Now Head For Memphis
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss wrapped up its Hattiesburg portion of postseason bowl practices with a final session at M.M. Roberts Stadium on Sunday.
The team now takes a four-day break for the Christmas holiday before convening in Memphis, Tenn., on Friday, Dec. 26, beginning the week of practices leading up to the 2003 AXA Liberty Bowl.
The bowl game is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 2:30 p.m., at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis. Southern Miss enters the game as the Conference USA champion and will face Utah, champions of the Mountain West Conference. The game will be televised by ESPN.
"We worked a lot on the kicking game today and rehearsed down and distance situations," Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "It was a good practice. We finished well, and now the important thing is that when we get to Memphis, we'll have had four days off, so we have to get back in the swing and get ready to go."
Bower said that all aspects of the game plan for Utah have been put in, and, although there won't be any practices until Friday, Bower expects the players to do some conditioning on their own.
"We want the players to run for a couple of days while they are gone," Bower said. "When we get to Memphis, the first two days are going to be pretty good practices. We will condition, and we'll get ready to go."
Southern Miss' Hattiesburg ticket office, located in the Pat Ferlise Center on West Fourth Street, will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, December 22 and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on December 23rd, 26th, 27th, 29th, and 30th. A bowl ticket office will be operated in Memphis on the mezzanine level of The Peabody and will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on December 29th and 30th, and from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on the 31st.
