Three Lady Eagles Named Academic All-District HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Senior middle blocker Bridget Files (Ramona, Calif.) was part of a six-person first team, while senior outside hitter Nicki Tribble (Houston, Texas) and junior setter Amy Truong (Palmdale, Calif.) both were selected the second team.
As a first-team selection, Files now moves on to the Academic All-America University Division national ballot. The Academic All-America team will be announced on Dec. 4.
Southern Miss was one of just two schools to have multiple players named to the academic teams. Along with the Lady Eagles, future Conference USA member Rice also had three selections. In all, 18 players from 14 regional schools were selected to the three teams.
Files leads Southern Miss in points scored with 526, including 408 kills. She also has posted 330 digs and 130 total blocks, both team bests, and has 36 service aces. She currently is the school's all-time leader in career block assists (340) and also ranks in the top 10 career lists of kills, attack attempts, block solos, total blocks and points scored. Files, who has a 3.73 GPA in psychology, was a Verizon Academic All-District VI Second Team honoree in 2002 and has been selected to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, the President's List and the Dean's List throughout her college career.
Tribble is second overall in points scored (500) and also leads the team in kills (436). She has 278 digs this season and is third in service aces (42). Tribble is 11th all-time in career kills and also is in the top 10 of career attack attempts and service aces. Tribble has been selected to the Dean's List and has been on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. She currently sports a 3.37 GPA in exercise science.
Truong is fifth overall in points (166.5) but holds the team's top mark in assists (1,313) and service aces (46). She is second in total blocks (70). Despite only playing setter for one full season, Truong already ranks seventh all-time in career assists. Truong has been selected to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Dean's List. She holds a 3.68 GPA in international studies.
