Southern Miss Wins Again, Tops TCU
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Lady Eagles made it two-for-two in Conference USA volleyball action this weekend, defeating TCU, 3-0, Saturday, at the USM Payne Center.
With the victory, the Lady Eagles improved to 17-3 overall and 2-0 in the league. The 17 wins is the most for a Southern Miss team since the Lady Eagles won 21 matches in 1998. TCU dropped to 14-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Southern Miss found itself down 8-2 early in the first game, but battled back to take the period, 30-26. The Lady Eagles then edged the Horned Frogs, 30-28, in the second game before ending the match with a 30-20 win the final game.
Andrea Bush again paced the Southern Miss attack, finishing with a match-high 18 points and 17 kills. Nicki Tribble added 16 kills and 17.5 points, while Bridget Files scored 14 points on nine kills and four service aces. Setter Amy Truong had 43 assists on the night, and Jazzmien Stephens chipped in with six kills and 8.5 points. Leslie Robertson added three service aces.
For TCU, Dominika Szabo had 15 points and 13 kills, while Ellen Rehme added 14.5 points and 12 kills. Tori Barlow had 38 assists.
The Lady Eagles resume conference play on the road, as they travel to South Florida on Friday and UAB on Saturday. The matches are slated for 7 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
