Southern Miss Edges Charlotte, 3-1
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle volleyball team got back on track with a 3-1 Conference USA win over visiting Charlotte, Friday, at the USM Payne Center.
Southern Miss (22-5, 7-2 in C-USA) picked up the hard-fought win 30-19, 29-31, 30-21 and 31-29. Charlotte fell to 7-20 overall and 0-8 in league play with the loss.
Bridget Files paced the Lady Eagles with a match-high 20 kills and 26 points, while also adding 10 digs in the match. Nicki Tribble and Jazzmien Stephens followed with 16.5 points (14 kills) and 14.5 points (13 kills), respectively. Andrea Bush added 13 points, 12 of which came on kills. Setter Amy Truong dished out 50 assists in the contest. Truong also had a team-high 11 digs.
For the 49ers, Abbey Szlanfucht put up 18 points and had a double-double with 17 kills and 17 digs in the match. Chanda Waller added 16 kills, while setter Molly McDonald had a match-high 51 assists. Danielle Miller also had double-digit digs with 15.
Southern Miss posted a .311 attack percentage in the match with 64 kills and only 17 attack errors. Charlotte finished with a .145 attack percentage with 58 kills and 35 errors.
The Lady Eagles now host East Carolina on Saturday. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
