Lady Eagle Volleyball Drops First League Match, 3-0
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Southern Miss saw its perfect league record snapped Friday night with a 3-0 loss to Cincinnati in Conference USA action at the Shoemaker Center.
The Lady Eagles (21-4, 6-1 in C-USA) struggled on the attack, finishing the match with a season-low .071 hitting percentage. The Bearcats improved to 20-2 on the season and 6-0 in the league with the 30-15, 30-23, 30-22 win.
The loss snapped a six-game win streak for Southern Miss and also was the team's first shutout loss since the Texas Tech match on Aug. 29.
Nicki Tribble was the lone Lady Eagle in double figures with 12 points -- all of which came on kills. Jazzmien Stephens followed with 9.5 points (seven kills), while Bridget Files added nine points (eight kills). Andrea Bush also had seven kills.
Myanna Hellsten had a match-high 14.5 points with 12 kills to lead the Bearcats. Rachel Torblaa followed with 13 points (11 kills) and Maria Pongonis had 12.5 points (11 kills).
Southern Miss now faces No. 20 Louisville on Saturday. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT).
