Lady Eagles Move To 6-0 In C-USA Play
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With Saturday's 3-0 victory over Marquette at the USM Payne Center, the Southern Miss Lady Eagles maintained their stronghold in Conference USA play, winning their sixth match in as many tries.
Southern Miss (21-3, 6-0 in C-USA) also continues its attack on the school record for wins in a season. With 21 victories, the team now ties in wins with the 1998 Lady Eagle squad. The record for most wins in a season is 26.
The Lady Eagles won the opening game 32-30, then took games two and three by scores of 30-27 and 30-25, respectively. Marquette fell to 5-14 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Andrea Bush again led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 24.5 points, including a match-high 19 kills in 39 attempts. She also added four service aces and had 11 digs. Bridget Files and Nicki Tribble followed with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Files had 13 kills and a team-high 17 digs, and had four total blocks. Tribble added 15 kills and nine digs.
Setter Amy Truong had a match-high 53 assists and added two aces, seven digs and four total blocks. Jazzmien Stephens and Leslie Robertson added seven and five kills, respectively.
For Marquette, Theresa Coughlin had a team-high 14.5 points (12 kills), while Ann Lopata and Erica Heisser respectively chipped in with 13 and 12.5 points. Gemma Greer had 45 assists in the match.
Southern Miss returns to league action next weekend with a pair of matches at No. 25 Cincinnati and No. 21 Louisville. The matches are slated for 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
