Southern Miss Volleyball Hosts DePaul, Marquette HATTIESBURG, Miss.
The league-leading Lady Eagles (19-3, 4-0 in C-USA) seek their 20th win when they face the Blue Demons at 7 p.m., Friday, at the USM Payne Center. Southern Miss then hosts the Marquette Golden Eagles, Saturday, at 7 p.m.
Led by third-year Head Coach Santiago Restrepo, the Lady Eagles are in the middle of one of the best seasons in school history. The team already has the best record through 22 matches and is just one win away from reaching the 20-win plateau for the first time since 1998. The school record for matches won in a season is 26.
Southern Miss' senior trio of Andrea Bush, Bridget Files and Nicki Tribble, along with junior setter Amy Truong have led the team this season. Files has a team-high 378 points this year, including 290 kills and 91 total blocks. Tribble leads all players in kills with 313 and is second with 366.5 points. Bush, who has a team-high 81 kills in league matches, is third overall with 329.5 points and has 291 kills.
Truong, this week's Conference USA Co-Player of the Week, leads the team with 937 assists this season. Along with the four players, Jazzmien Stephens, Leslie Robertson and Amanda Blunck have all contributed this season. Stephens is fourth overall with 139 kills, while Robertson's contributed 101.5 points. Blunck is fifth overall in digs (165), primarily playing in the libero position.
DePaul enters the match with a 10-11 record and is 2-2 in conference play. Janet Cotter leads the team with 268 kills, while Mandy Moorberg follows with 250 kills. Amie West has a team-high 911 assists.
For Marquette (5-12, 2-2), Theresa Coughlin has a team-high 279 kills and also leads with 303 points. Ann Lopata follows with 170 kills and 210.5 points, while Gemma Greer has a team-high 709 assists.
Following the weekend matches, Southern Miss takes to the road to face Cincinnati and Louisville on Oct. 24 and 25.
