Lady Eagles Stay Undefeated In Conference USA Play
? The Southern Miss volleyball team extended its winning streak to four matches, following a five-game win over UAB, 3-2 (30-16, 30-18, 28-30, 23-30, 15-12), Saturday night. Southern Miss improved to 19-3 on the season and 4-0 in Conference
Seniors Andrea Bush and Bridet Files led Southern Miss with 19 kills, each, and Nicki Tribble added 12. Defensively, the Lady Eagles had five players tally double-digit digs, led by Bush and Amy Truong with 16 digs, each. Files had 15 digs and Amanda Blunck and Tribble, each had 13 dig. Karen Boyd and Martina Shields had 19 and 18 kills, respectively, for UAB. Shields also added 19 digs.
?This was a good weekend for us,? Head Coach Santiago Restrepo said. ?We had a let down in games three and four, but the important thing is that we were able to regroup and win the fifth game.?
Southern Miss opened the match, dominating the first two games against UAB, winning 30-16 and 30-18. The Lady Eagles had an attack percentage of .324 in game one and .452 in game two.
UAB was able to regroup and take games three and four from the Lady Eagles, 30-28 and 30-23. In game five, Southern Miss took advantage of six UAB attack errors, defeating the Blazers, 15-12.
With the win, the Lady Eagles are undefeated in league play for the first-time ever.
