Lady Eagles Get Its 18th Win, Sweep USF
? The Southern Miss volleyball team picked up its 18th win of the season, sweeping USF in three games, 30-28, 30-22, 30-17. The win was the first win against the Bulls in 24 tries.
The Lady Eagle seniors, Andrea Bush, Bridet Files and Nicki Tribble led the offensive attack, registering 15, 14, and 13 kills, respectively. The three combined for 44.5 points. Shameka Mitchell led USF with 14 kills and Fran Pozzi added 11 kills. Tribble also added 10 digs. Amy Truong finished the match with 47 assists and four service aces.
?I thought we played very well as a team tonight,? Head Coach Santiago Restrepo said. ?We played extremely well in the second and third games. We had six cylinders working. We went out and took care of business.?
The first game was played evenly, with neither team gaining any more than a three-point advantage. However, USF led 24-19, when Southern Miss went on a 6-1 run, taking the lead at 26-25 and then held on for the 30-28 win.
In game two, the Lady Eagles took control early. Southern Miss committed only two attack errors while hitting .444 on its way to a 30-22 win.
In game three, Southern Miss hit a season-high .641 for a 30-17 win.
