Lady Eagles Lose Opener in Arkansas Tournament
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ? The Southern Miss volleyball team went five games against Tennessee-Martin, but the Skyhawks claimed the hard-fought victory (30-32, 30-28, 22-30, 24-30, 19-17) in the first round of the Bank of Fayetteville Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The Lady Eagles captured the opening game, winning 32-30, but Tennessee-Martin knotted the match with a 30-28 victory in game two. Both teams exchanged the next two games, with Southern Miss winning the third, 30-22, and Tennessee-Martin claiming the fourth game, 30-24.
The fifth game concluded a tight rally scoring sequence, with the Skyhawks having to win by two, 19-17. The match was redeeming for Tennessee-Martin, as the Lady Eagles defeated the Skyhawks in a five-game match at Ole Miss? tournament last season.
Andrea Bush led all hitters with 30 kills. She also collected 19 digs. Nicki Tribble claimed 23 kills and a match-best 30 digs. Bridget Files finished with 13 kills, two block solos and five block assists. Amy Truong recorded 12 kills, and Crystal Zane led with 73 assists.
Lindsey Stock led UTM with 19 kills, as the Skyhawks improved to 2-2 on the season.
Southern Miss (4-2) continues its competition in the tournament with a 5:30 p.m., match against North Texas, this evening.
