Pruitt Named Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Hattiesburg, Miss. - Southern Miss redshirt junior free safety Etric Pruitt was named Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week, along with Cincinnati's Antwan Peek, for their performance on Saturday. Pruitt finished with seven tackles, three interceptions and five pass breakups.
His three interceptions tie Louisville's Anthony Floyd (2000) for the Conference USA single-game mark and ranks No. 2 on Southern Miss' single-game list, tying with Labarion Ranks (vs. East Carolina, 1992) and David Odom (vs. Louisville, 1979). He now has five interceptions on the season, ranking No. 1 in Conference USA and No. 2 in the nation.
Pruitt is currently No. 3 on the team in tackles with 48 (33 solo) and has two tackles for loss. He leads the team in interceptions and has 10 pass breakups to his credit. He also is ranked among the national leaders in pass deflections as well.
Peek, a defensive end, finished with a game-high 10 tackles, had one sack, forced two fumbles and had a fumble recovery in the Bearcats' 35-22 win at Temple. His sack (and forced fumble) came with Temple driving for a score with two minutes remaining in the game.
Southern Miss is currently 4-1 on the season, heading into an open week.
