Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Sweeps South Alabama, 3-0
Juniors Andrea Bush and Bridget Files led the Lady Eagles with 16 kills each. Nicki Tribble, Amy Truong and Jazzmien Stephens added six kills each. Tribble also led the team with seven digs. Selena Chidester and Holly Miller led the Jaguars with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
"I thought we came out very aggressive tonight," Head Coach Santiago Restrepo said. "We worked hard on our passing and it showed. We got to several balls that I thought were down. I was very pleased with our defensive effort and blocking. It was a great team effort again."
Southern Miss took control of game one behind the hitting of Bush and Files, combining for 10 of the 16 kills. The Eagles had only three hitting errors and finished the game with a .433 hitting percentage.
Game two followed the same pattern with Bush and Files leading the way. Southern Miss only had two hitting errors in the 30-20 win.
The Jaguars fought back in game three, taking the lead, but the Eagles used an aggressive defense to get back into the match. The score went back and forth, with no team leading by more than two points. Files ended the game with one of her eight kills.
The Lady Eagles return to action Sept. 6-7, in the Bank of Fayetteville Invitational, at the University of Arkansas. Southern Miss plays Tennessee-Martin at 11 a.m., followed by North Texas at 5:30 p.m., and end with Arkansas on Saturday at 11 a.m.
